Expansion to include VR - Virtual Reality

Thanks to the VRLab, Paderborn University's virtual reality laboratory, the GamesLab can extend the development of video game prototypes to VR applications. The VRLab provides the software and hardware for this, as well as a large room in N5.206, where students can use new technologies and develop and research with them.

Free space in the VRLab

The VRLab is designed in such a way that the workstations are located at the outer edges of the room. This creates a large open space in the centre, which offers the possibility of large areas for testing and physical expansion during development. There is also enough space for several groups to work simultaneously.

VR hardware and content

The main GamesLab course can provide up to 35 computer workstations for students thanks to the expansion into the VRLab. The VRLab offers hardware for VR development as well as independent seminars and content on VR, such as the seminar "VR in junior professors and professors" with Sebastian Krois and Jakob Cyrkel.

Virtual reality in the GamesLab

With the addition of virtual reality, we can now also develop VR game prototypes in the GamesLab main seminar. The development of VR prototypes is very different from 3D games that are played on computers, for example. Despite the challenge, this work is enriching, as new requirements also train new skills.
